LIMA webinars to provide insights on the essence of brands and IP protection

Published on: 5th January 2018

LIMA will kick off 2018 with a series of informative and thought-provoking webinars.

The webinars are designed to give licensing professionals insights on how to identify and leverage brand essence, and (in Canada) how to protect their intellectual property.

Below is an overview of each upcoming webinar, and the topics that participants can look forward to.

10th January – Expand, Grow, Thrive
Every company is under pressure to grow their footprint and revenues. Many brands are looking for ways to do so on a global basis. In this discussion, Pete Canalichio of Licensing Brands shares his findings and experiences on what it takes to build valuable assets and to generate more value from those assets. He’ll look at several brand examples, including how a game like Halo generates millions in revenue through long term storytelling, partnerships and the judicious use of technology.

17th January – What You Need to Know About Protecting and Enforcing Your IP in Canada
This session will cover the legal ins-and-outs of the licensing business in Canada – including recent changes to Canadian law and enforcement practices regarding intellectual property. Tony Prenol, Partner at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP, and Leader of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group, will provide an overview of how to protect and enforce your IP in Canada, including examples specific to different industries.

31st January – The Search for Your Missing Brand
Many legacy or established companies had a “reason for being;” early on it was the core of their brand and was appropriately expressed. But over time, brand meaning has been lost, become unclear, or the competitive landscape changed. As a result, the touchpoints, behaviors, and more have become diluted and are less effective. Raj B. Stroff and Michael Reda of Pine Strategy and Design offer a look at how to drill down to a brand’s essence, and thus get a better idea on how to determine where it can and should live.

All webinar sessions take place from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm EDT. Webinars are free to all LIMA members, $200 per line for non-members.
