Want to design cool product that will land on toy shelves all around the world??? This might be your chance. You have to have over five years experience managing complex projects end-to-end, and exposure to the manufacture of product in China. In addition, you need to have a quirky edge, an ability to think outside the square, and a real interest in children’s products and trends.

Role Objectives
Responsible for the progression of an idea from concept to realisation. This includes the key play features, actual workings of the product, presentation to management, including writing specifications, technical design issues, and performing the model and off-tool review.

Primary Skills
Ability to think creatively;
Knowledge and experience of products within the toy industry;
A strong interest in social and cultural trends and fashions;
An understanding of plastic manufacturing processes: Manufacture/tooling / moulding of plastic parts  production line processes, basic QA, printing processes, understanding of a range of materials and their characteristics;
Basic model making skills and an ability to think in 3D;
An understanding of manufacture for cut and sew, specifically designing for plush product;
Strong sketching skills;
Methodical and attentive to detail;
Excellent computer skills with preferred knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Solidworks; Effective communication skills with experience presenting ideas to senior management;
Able to work effectively in cross-functional teams;
Problem solving capabilities;
An ability to build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, Senior Management and customers
Good time management with the ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

You will need
Relevant tertiary qualification e.g. Product/Industrial Design degree.
An Engineering background would be beneficial, but is not a requirement.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
Experience self managing projects and designing products for manufacture.

Product Development:
In collaboration with the Brand Design Team, assist in the further development of products from approved concept through to production;
Incorporate factors influencing product design such as cost, selection of materials, production methods, new technology, safety/quality assurance, fashion trends, ergonomics, the environment, marketing and business strategy;
Solve design issues regarding form, configuration of internal components and general appearance, incorporating feedback from the management and the Brand Design Teams.
Follow electronic and physical internal filing operating procedures;
Create technical specification packages;
Assist Marketing team with presentation material and samples for TV ads,toy fairs and external presentations.

Market Research:
Ensure product positioning in the market reflects current toy trends
Actively research the market place, other toy companies, vendors and tradefairs for trends, ideas, samples and information that will lead to and support new ideas for products and brand extensions.
