A successful start for Dreamworks’ Home

Home has taken the number one slot grossing $9.1m in the UK on its opening weekend and $54m over its opening weekend in the US.Home-wordpress

It is a higher domestic opening than Ice Age, The Lion King, Jurassic Park, Batman Begins, Pirates of the Caribbean or Casino Royale. It is the sixteenth biggest spring opening of all time.

For Dreamworks it is a higher opening than Shrek or Madagascar and also beats both How to Train Your Dragons movies. It compares to the $49.5m opening for Dragons 2, which went onto become the highest earning animated film in 2014, with $620m.

In the UK, Home continued to perform, earning an additional $3.9m in its second week, despite the weekend seeing openings for Cinderella ($5.5m) and The Spongebob Movie ($3.3m). Home’s UK tally so far stands at $13.8million.
