Airfix salutes Dambusters 70th anniversary

Published on: 15th May 2013

Airfix has successfully launched two brand new Dambusters products.Airfix300

The first is a classic Airfix Avro Lancaster ‘Dambusters’ 1:72 set which sold out across the UK within days of launch.

The Airfix Dambusters range launched in April this year, to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the Dam Raid (Operation Chastise) on 17th May. The Dambusters range consists of two newly-tooled products, one being a gift set which comes complete with the correct Humbrol paints, adhesive and brushes to build a replica of Wing Commander Guy Gibson aircraft. The classic Airfix set comes complete with two finish options; Fltl Joseph Charles McCarthy DFC and Fltl Robert Norman Barlow DFC – both aircraft and crews being part of the famous 617 Squadron Dambusters “Operation Chastise”.

To mark the 70th Anniversary of the Dam Raid, Airfix has also worked alongside high street retailer ModelZone. Staff in all ModelZone stores were allowed to enter their completed Dambuster Airfix models into a competition to find the best model. Airfix will then choose a winner (closing date for entries is May 17th) awarding the best model/diorama with a signed print of the model box illustration.

In other Hornby news, the birth of Frank Hornby is being celebrated today with a Google doodle featuring model railways.
