Just one day before Argos unveiled its free delivery offer, Amazon has launched its Prime Same Day, a service which is free to Prime subscribers but £9.99 for others.
Amazon’s Prime Same Day is free for customers who have already paid for Amazon Prime, and allows customers to order goods before noon and receive them between 6pm and 10pm. Those who have not paid for Amazon Prime can still have their goods delivered on the same day, for a fee of £9.99 per order.
The service, which launched on Thursday, will initially be open only to customers in London, Hertfordshire and Berkshire, with plans to include other areas of the UK in coming months.
Amazon’s new offer coincides with Argos’ launch of its own free same-day service on Friday. The company’s same-day delivery service normally costs £3.95 but will be free, under certain conditions, until 24th November. It will only apply to orders over £50.
“We are the only retailer able to offer same-day delivery nationwide and we’re even happier to provide this service for free to customers until 24th November,” said Argos’ marketing director Stephen Vowles.
