AmongUs goes from strength to strength as game development ramps up

Published on: 18th February 2022

Master toy partner Toikido’s collectible range was shortlisted for Collectible of the Year, and exciting new products including the AmongUs Airship are on the way for 2022.

The smash hit game AmongUs, which rose to popularity during the first lockdown following its below-the-radar 2018 launch, continues to hold its own in the gaming space. In December, the game – which sees players tasked with uncovering the identity of the Imposter aboard the spaceship before they have a chance to murder everyone – was the No.1 most downloaded game on Playstation 4 and 5, and is second only to Roblox in terms of monthly users and downloads.

In January, AmongUs designer Innersloth Games published its 2022 roadmap, which lets fans know about upcoming development and has stoked a lot of excitement for the year ahead. Enhancements include Friend Lists, which let players jump into games with friends and users they enjoy playing with – or keep tabs on their greatest enemies. Innersloth is also simplifying account creation, Cosmicube redemption, chat choice and other aspects of the game flow to improve the user experience.

Series 2 of the Toikido collectibles range is rolling out now, while July sees the launch of the Airship. This new toy is authentically modelled upon the fourth AmongUs map to be unveiled, the largest of the maps available. Other special edition products will also be hitting shelves in July, just in time for a summer of AmongUs fun.

The Toikido team continues to grow in line with its own success. Dave Chattaway is the latest person to the join the team in the role of chief financial officer.

Founder Darran Garnham says: “Dave joins Toikido with a wealth of experience across finance and commercial roles in the branding and consumers electronics segments. Along with his brother, he launched Ring.com in the UK market, steering revenues from £0 to £50m in two years before its acquisition by Amazon – but more importantly, he is a big kid.”
