In the 14 weeks to 5th January, like-for-like sales edged up 0.1% while full year like-for like sales rose by 1%.
Andy Clarke, Asda’s chief executive, said: “We’re pleased with our results in a tough market. The last quarter was challenging but that’s because of the decisions we took to drive volume. It has left us in a good position for this year.”
Asda said it enjoyed its “biggest online Christmas ever”, with internet sales climbing 18.8%.
