The Sphero BB-8 droid saw through its highest grossing 24 hours on Force Friday in the company’s entire 17 year history.

starwarsdroidfireboxThe retailer focused its efforts on the latest droid merchandise, rather than on the large range of products launched in anticipation for the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens film.

Ben Redhead, head of buying at, said: “The response to BB-8 has been incredible. Within the first few hours of the product going live, we had almost sold out our entire inventory, but luckily Sphero and our UK distributor Widget were able to restock us immediately and the droid continued to fly off the shelves.”

BB-8 immediately climbed to no.1 in the Firebox ‘Top 50’ chart, which details the best products based on sales and social buzz around the product. As a result, the team estimate that the BB-8 will continue to be in high demand throughout the Christmas season too.

Ben continued: “We had anticipated the high demand, as we’re well-known for selling licensed film merchandise and also having worked with Sphero on their previous launches in the past, which is why we’d put such a focus behind BB-8, but sales were even better than we had ever expected. It’s been our fastest selling product launch since Firebox launched in 1998, which is staggering. The buzz from our customers has been absolutely phenomenal.

The Star Wars brand is so powerful that almost anything will sell, but we ensure to focus on selling only the very best merchandise to provide our customers with our expertise in this market, our knowledge of the best products out there and also to ensure they’re getting the very best customer experience.”

BB-8 is available at for £129.99.
