Belfast’s Learning Space in line for expansion

The award-winning toy business is poised to open a flagship store in Newry this summer.

learningspace480Learning Space was created by two sisters, Lorraine and Mary McAleer, who gave up their careers to embark into the toy industry eight years ago.

The second store is part of a long-term business strategy, which includes a target of opening 10 stores in total across the UK and Ireland within the next five years.

Lorraine commented: “We are currently looking at premises in Newry and the new store will be supported by the warehouse extension to house our growing stock. The new premises will be a flagship store and will comprise a soft play area, sensory room and training room for teaching purposes.”

The company today has a turnover of just over £1m, after beginning with an overdraft of £25,000 and a loan for the same amount. It now has a database of over 200 suppliers, as well as regularly supplying for trusts, schools and charities.
