Brave takes $66.7m on opening weekend

Disney Pixar’s Brave tops the US box office taking a spectacular $66.7M in its 3-day opening weekend.

Audiences flocked to see the latest Pixar film, making it the 13th consecutive Pixar film to top the box office, and the 3rd biggest Pixar June opening ever (behind Toy Story 3 and UP at $110.3M and $68.1M respectively). The global box office has so far amassed an estimated total of $80.3M from its opening weekend with the majority of international markets still yet to release.

Set in the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland, Brave follows the heroic journey of Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald). Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, Brave is a grand adventure full of heart, memorable characters and signature Pixar humour that audiences of all ages around the world have come to expect.

Brave will hold its European film premiere at the closing night of the Edinburgh International Film Festival this Saturday, 30th June 2012
