Jon Diver takes over as new BTHA chairman, while Lifetime Achievement awards are presented to the Character Options ‘Gang of Four’.

BTHA1The BTHA AGM & Industry Day took place at Great Fosters Hotel in Egham on Wednesday. During the AGM, Character Options’ Jon Diver took over the role as BTHA chairman from outgoing office holder Phil Ratcliffe, while Hasbro’s Foye Pascoe was confirmed as the new vice chairman.

Richard Beecham was presented with a Toy Trust Outstanding Contribution award, after his generous personal donation enabled the BTHA to support every children’s hospice registered in the UK as part of its Giving the Gift of Play initiative.

The event also saw Lifetime Achievement awards presented to Richard King, Kiran Shah, Joe Kissane and Jon Diver, the driving forces behind Character Options. A 20 minute video explained how each of the recipients first became involved with the toy trade, how their paths crossed and the history behind what is now the largest UK-owned toy company. Roger Dyson spoke about the individuals and the key role each of them has played in the growth of the business, while Richard King paid testament to the huge team of people who have also made invaluable contributions to the company’s success.

The morning presentations were given by Paul Martin of Boxwood Consulting, who spoke at some length about the retail outlook for the UK, and Sir Clive Woodward, who described his team-building and management philosophies, leaving most of those present to wonder whether both the England football team and the government should take on board some of his practices.
