Classic Media acquires Olivia

Classic Media has announced that it has acquired the rights to Olivia from Chorion, the media content group.

Olivia is an animated television series which was inspired by the original award-winning book series by Ian Falconer.  It was first published in 2000 and became an instant best-seller and was awarded the prestigious Caldecott Honor. More than six million Olivia books have been sold worldwide.

In 2009, OLIVIA debuted as a 3D CG TV series on Nick Jr. in the US. This top-rated series is seen in more than 120 countries and airs on leading broadcasters that include Five/Milkshake! (UK), ABC (Australia), Treehouse (Canada) and TF1 (France).

“Olivia has a strong universal appeal with young girls and their families,” said Mary Durkan, MD, Chorion. “We are thrilled that Classic Media will continue to introduce her to new audiences worldwide.”

Eric Ellenbogen, Co-CEO at Classic Media, added: “This is the perfect addition to our portfolio of classic properties and we look forward to bringing Olivia and her adventures to families everywhere.”

Classic Media announced earlier this month that it had acquired the rights to Noddy from Chorion. Classic Media also own Casper the Friendly Ghost, Where’s Waldo?, Lassie, The Lone Ranger, Postman Pat and George of the Jungle.
