Corgi announces new range of magical die-cast products

Published on: 18th September 2019

All three products are displayed in Wizarding World packaging and make the ideal gift for Harry Potter fans.

In 2018 Hornby Hobbies and Warner Bros entered into a three year licensing partnership. The Wizarding World franchise has been the focus for Hornby Railways and Corgi’s die-cast products. The star of the Hornby range is the Hogwarts Express Train Set. To complement the set, Hornby is also releasing a range of accessories enabling the consumer to add even more magic to their layouts – including Hogsmeade Station, Platform 9 ¾ and additional coaches.

With Hornby producing the famous Hogwarts Express Locomotive, Corgi is able to capitalise on the research completed by its colleagues in the Hornby team, by providing manufacturers with a Hogwarts Express red paint swatch and challenging them to match it exactly. The result is the most accurate reproduction at 1:100 scale the market has ever seen.

Corgi’s Flying Ford Anglia, the light blue car in 1:43 scale, includes figures of Harry and Ron, depicting them just after they crash into the Whomping Willow in the second film. No less than four different production samples of the car were provided to the Corgi development team before the colour was approved for production. The resulting model is as accurate as it can possibly be.

Accompanying the Ford Anglia is the purple triple decker Knight Bus from third instalment of the franchise, The Prisoner of Azkaban. The bus is even adorned with crystal chandeliers for a touch of luxury.

Corgi’s brand manager Emily Houghton said: “The Corgi team is truly excited to gather the reaction of the media, trade and of course our consumers now that the products are readily available again. We promise that the magic won’t stop here, all we will say for now is keep your eyes and ears peeled for our 2020 range announcements in January. Potterheads and die-cast collectors alike will not be disappointed…”
