The Group reported that sales in its subsidiary Asmodee were down 5% in its financial Q3 which covers October to December 2023.
Video game company Embracer acquired Asmodee (along with Dark Horse Comics) in January last year. The move made Asmodee the ninth operative group of Embracer, moving Embracer towards becoming a leading independent global gaming entity. It was reported at the time that Asmodee would continue to operate as before the transaction and no reorganisation was expected.
Embracer Group has reported that sales of $398m in its fiscal Q3 (October to December 2022) by the tabletop game distribution and publishing subsidiary Asmodee were down 5% against the same quarter in 2021, following key Asmodee releases in the quarter which included Star Wars Clone Wars, Splendor Duel, Challengers, Twilight Inscription, 3000 Scoundrels and Heat: Pedal to the Metal.
Embracer stated in the quarterly report that the drop in Asmodee sales was at a time of board game market contraction in the US, estimating that the market in the territory was down -7% for the nine-month period April to December 2022. However, the overall tabletop games market was said to be up +1% for the nine-month period, a rise credited to an estimated 21% increase in strategic trading card games
Asmodee and its parent company Embracer were profitable in both the October-December quarter, and in the wider nine-month April-December period. The report states Asmodee had operating income of $59m on its $398m in sales in the October-December quarter, and $83.6m in operating income on $965.6m of sales in the nine-month April-December period.
Embracer earned $143m on sales of $1.11b in the quarter, and $354m on sales of $2.72b in the nine-month April-December period.
Looking ahead, Embracer said it has identified 25 video game projects based on Asmodee tabletop titles, which are in various stages of development.
