Esdevium acquires rights to Catan Board Game

Asmodee, parent company of Esdevium, has acquired the worldwide English-language publishing, commercial and brand rights to renowned board game, Catan.

esdevium480The award-winning Catan board game, invented in 1995 by Klaus Teuber, has sold more than 23 million copies (including expansions) and has been translated into 35 languages. For 20 years, the game has created innovative gaming experiences and social interactions for players. This long lasting success enables Catan to be recognised as an internationally established brand, with English-language today representing over 50% of the worldwide yearly sales.

The acquisition has led to the creation of Catan Studio, for which the key function will be to develop and grow the Catan brand.

“Catan is one of the giants of modern board gaming and naturally we’re delighted to add it to our portfolio”, commented Esdevium Games’ managing director, Steve Buckmaster. “We’re looking forward to working closely on Catan and developing the brand even further moving forward.”
