Feature length Spirit: Riding Free movie scheduled for 2021

The Netflix series was inspired by the 2002 animated feature Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, voiced by Matt Damon.

An as-yet untitled feature film based on DreamWorks Animation’s Netflix series Spirit Riding Free is reportedly scheduled for release in 2021. The movie, from DreamWorks and Universal, will follow the adventures of a girl from a small frontier town who forms an unbreakable bond with a wild mustang named Spirit. The two embark on a rescue mission when Spirit’s herd is captured.

The film will be directed by Elaine Bogan (Tales of Arcadia: Trollhunters, Dragons: Race to the Edge), co-directed by Ennio Torresan and produced by Karen Foster. It is scheduled for release on the 14th May 2021. No voice cast has yet been announced.

Spirit Riding Free, produced by DreamWorks Animation Television and distributed by Netflix, is based on the 2002 Oscar-nominated animated film, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. The series was first released on Netflix on 5th May 2017, and is currently in its eighth season. Master toy partner Just Play offers a wide range of figures, play sets and accessories through UK distributor Flair, while Playmobil also has a comprehensive licensed range including individual horse and rider figures, stable sets and a hero barn play set.
