The 1966 World Cup is at number one, with four in ten Brits regarding England winning as the most memorable football moment ever.

The nation’s top 10 football moments by SoccerSuckers poll:

  1. England winning the 1966 World Cup
  2. Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’ goal during the 1986 World Cup
  3. Gascoigne crying during the 1990 World Cup semi-final
  4. John Terry’s missed penalty in the 2008 UEFA Champions League final
  5. Liverpool winning the 2005 Champions League
  6. Michael Owen’s goal versus Argentina in the 1998 World Cup
  7. Alex Ferguson’s final pitch speech in May 2013
  8. Paul Gascoigne’s ‘Dentist’s chair’ celebration in the 1996 Euros
  9. The 1999 Champions Leagues final
  10. Gareth Southgate’s missed penalty in the 1996 World Cup
