Starring Yifei Liu, Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li and Jet Li, the film will hit theatres on 27th March, 2020.
Disney has released the first teaser trailer for its upcoming live action remake of the 1998 classic, Mulan.
The film follows the spirited Hua Mulan, who joins the Chinese Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders. When the Emperor issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the army, Mulan, the the eldest daughter of an honoured warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father. Masquerading as a man, Hua Jun, she must harness her inner-strength and embrace her true potential. It is an epic journey that will transform her into an honoured warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation – and a proud father.
Fans of the animated original have criticised Disney’s apparent decision not to include any of the 1998 movie’s original songs – which include I’ll Make a Man Out of You, Reflection and Honour to Us All – and to drop the iconic characters Mushu the dragon and General Li Shang. However, it’s been pointed out that the live action movie will be far more faithful to the Ballad of Mulan, the ancient Chinese poem which inspired the Disney animation.
Mulan features a celebrated international cast that includes Yifei Liu as Mulan, Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Jason Scott Lee as Böri Khan, Yoson An as Cheng Honghui, with Gong Li as Xianniang and Jet Li as the Emperor. The film is directed by Niki Caro from a screenplay by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver and Elizabeth Martin & Lauren Hynek.
The movie is set for release in March 2020.
