Grabby games make third John Adams Board Game Club a success

Published on: 24th October 2018

The third John Adams takeover of BGC presented guests with a mix of popular classics and new favourites on October 17th.

The evergreen Othello and Rummikub proved popular as always, while new-to-market hits included Slam It and the find it and grab it game, Grabolo.

With its fast-to-grasp rules and first-to-grab format, guests found Grabolo hard to resist. Board Game Club co-founder Lesley Singleton suggested another reason for its popularity: “It’s one of those games that seems incredibly straightforward… Find the right shape among the mess, then grab it before anyone else does. The trouble is that the second the dice stop moving, you freeze – then all hell breaks loose. It’s a perfect game for our nights: fast, simple and funny.”

The appeal of the see-and-grab format continued elsewhere in the room, with plenty of people also enjoying Don’t be a Donkey. Board Game Club’s other co-founder, Pete Jenkinson, ended up wearing the donkey ears and face mask more than once.

Now in its fifth year, Board Game Club continues to feature card, party, and novelty games, providing “can’t-miss” dates in the diary. The popular evenings let games enthusiasts and industry insiders meet, mingle and play in a relaxed, informal way.
