Three comedians are to stay overnight in Hamleys flagship London branch in a programme for Channel 4’s Christmas schedule.

As part of Channel 4’s festive line-up, One Night In…Hamleys will see three comedians locked overnight in the famous toy shop on London’s Regent Street. The overnight guests, who have not yet been named, but are promised to be “three of the nation’s best-loved comedians,” will be given the run of the store, without staff, security guards or shoppers. Without any ‘grown ups’ there, the programme makers say that the comics will be able to run wild for the night and do all the things they dreamed of doing in a toy shop when they were kids.

Billed as “A Night In The Museum meets Big”, the hour long programme will give the celebrity guests the opportunity to run amok, snoop around, raid the shelves, chat about Christmas, invent games to play, try out the toys and reminisce with festive stories, as they hang out after hours and unsupervised in the famous emporium.

They will be set challenges to complete within the store, with just one rule – no sleeping. Breaking this rule will see them penalised. Fulfilling the wishes of kids and big kids alike, they can do anything they like, as long as they’re out of the store before the cleaners arrive and the store gets ready to open the next morning.

The retailer is renowned for its Christmas window displays and recently unveiled its top toy predictions for Christmas. Hamleys is a popular destination over the festive season, although the store has recently suffered from a dramatic drop in footfall, and is uncertain whether it will host the number of shoppers it usually does over the Q4 shopping period. Consequently, over a quarter of employees at the London store have been made redundant.

The programme will air in December.
