Turner Broadcasting has acquired the new series for its pre-school channel Cartoonito, where Fireman Sam has been the number one rating show since 2009.

The new series will introduce a major new location, new outfits for the crew and new vehicles.

The ninth series will be produced by China-based digital animation company Xing Xing, which also collaborated on the three previous series.

Marion Edwards, executive producer, HIT Entertainment, said: “Fireman Sam continues to increase in popularity and, to meet the overwhelming demand for new content, HIT has committed to significant investment in the series to ensure the future remains bright. We’re also thrilled that Cartoonito has renewed their commitment and, with the addition of some fantastic new locations and equipment for the crew, this new series will deliver even more exciting Pontypandy adventures.”
