Hornby announces #HornbyHoliday Summertime Layout Challenge

Published on: 20th July 2021

The challenge invites model railway enthusiasts to create a summertime themed layout for the chance to win £1000 worth of prizes.

The #HornbyHoliday Summertime Challenge aims to replace the current frustrations of being able to travel easily with a fun competition to occupy Hornby fans over the summer months.

The Summertime Layout Challenge is open to all. For the chance to win £1000 worth of Hornby prizes, entrants are tasked with creating their own summertime themed layout, while following a simple set of rules.

The competition is being judged by Pete Waterman OBE and Fuzz Townshend, who will be viewing all layout entry images. The judges’ top three from each category will then go to a social media vote.

The layout must be summertime themed and feature Hornby products, although the company adds: “creativity is key – we are looking for unique designs, so any arts and crafts that are included will be accepted.”

Entrants must register to participate in the challenge by Sunday 25th July, and by 9th August must provide images (plus videos if wished) of the layout base, featuring the track and ground level scenic. By 30th August, images should be provided of the risen scenery, ie buildings, structures, trees etc. The final deadline is 20th September when the completed layout featuring the locomotive/s and rolling stock must be presented.

More details regarding the rules, deadlines and categories are available here.

Hornby has produced a launch video for the event, which you can view below:
