Hornby Hobbies is auctioning ‘one off’ London 2012 product samples that were used to present to LOCOG.
These unique samples led to the development of Hornby’s London 2012 memorabilia range.
Released this week via the official London 2012 memorabilia auction site, Hornby is to include over 50 products, including handmade sculpts, pre-production samples and concept packaging, listed with no reserve.
This release will include 1:18 scale hand decorated Destination London 2012 die cast taxis, made to represent the 40 real life liveried cabs commissioned by Hornby that worked on the road in the run up to the Games. All 40 of the real life cabs were liveried to match the 1:64 collection ‘Destination London 2012’ that contain 40 collectable taxis, each featuring a different Olympic or Paralympic sport. Presented in a bespoke pack designed for this hand decorated exclusive, the set comes complete with a 1:64 scale general range version available as part of the Hornby London 2012 range.
The online auction will also include the first sample presented to LOCOG to propose the concept of ‘Sporting Figurines’ within the Hornby licensing contract. It was based on the sporting pose ‘Fencing’ and was the initial catalyst for the ‘London 2012 Pictogram Figurine’ range that exists today. Track cycling, sailing, synchronised swimming and hockey figurine samples are to be included as well.
The iconic Routemaster bus key ring is also be included alongside a number of other die-cast samples.
