ITVS GE announces Thunderbirds toy distribution partners in Australia and NZ

Published on: 8th April 2019

Modern Brands and Planet Fun named as exclusive toy distribution partners for Australia & New Zealand respectively.

Both Modern Brands and Planet Fun will begin to sell in the autumn/winter 19 Thunderbirds Are Go range with immediate effect, having showcased the toy line at the Melbourne Toy Fair in March.

Thunderbirds Are Go airs on both ABC Me and Nine Network in Australia, and on TVNZ2 in New Zealand, providing coverage across the FTA channels in both countries, and additional VOD exposure in New Zealand through kids platform Heihei. With Season 3 continuing in 2019 in the UK, broadcast in Australia & New Zealand will follow the UK premiere, with new episodes to support the launch of the toy line in the market.

The series is a co-production between ITV Studios and New Zealand-based Pukeko Pictures, in collaboration with world-famous New Zealand studio Weta Workshop (Avatar, King Kong, The Lord of the Rings), making these significant markets for the brand.

The first nine episodes of Season 3, which aired in the UK from March 2018, reached 1.4m kids in the first run (Source: BARB, April-June 2018), with the broadcast platform roll-out of further new episodes set to support the launch of the new toy line in autumn/winter 2019. The new toy line consists of collectibles, action figures and vehicles which encourage imaginative rescue role-play and interaction between the characters and their craft.

Tim Clarke, general manager at Modern Brands, commented: “Australia is a very relevant and important market for Thunderbirds Are Go. We are very excited to be working with ITV to bring the Thunderbirds Are Go toy line to the Australian retailers and consumers from 2019. Thunderbirds has a strong following in Australia and as a long term property has a great fit within the Modern Brands brand portfolio.”

Jeremy Kirk-Smith, CEO at Planet Fun, added: “The team members at Planet Fun have long been passionate Thunderbirds Are Go fans, and are proud that the show is produced in New Zealand (in Wellywood!). We are thrilled to announce that The Warehouse will be exclusive retail partners with stock hitting the shelves in August this year.”
