Product Developer

Department: Global Design & Development Team

Reporting to: Head of Development, Toys

The Company

Goliath is a privately owned, global hard hitter on toys and games, with 12 subsidiaries around world offering global reach for all our products.

We are looking for a driven, creative individual to become a central part of the toy development team, working closely with a vibrant group of internal and external partners, including our US, Dutch and Hong Kong offices.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Product designer/engineer with relevant degree or equivalent qualification
  • 3-8 years industry experience, ideally in the toy/sporting goods market with a bias towards outdoor and/or sports products
  • Hands on experience of manufacturing and design for manufacture would be ideal
  • Experience dealing with Far East offices/vendors would be hugely beneficial
  • Strong project management skills
  • Good teamwork and communication are essential as we work across multiple countries
  • A strong understanding of current manufacturing techniques and the design practices that accompany them is critical
  • Good knowledge of current CAD packages (SolidWorks/Fusion 360) would be advantageous

Key Tasks/Main Duties

  • Coordinate key project milestone events across design, packaging, and the Far East teams
  • Create and maintain Bills of Materials which will be shared with the Far East team for quotes and final costings
  • Design and create initial working prototypes for proof of concept and testing
  • Analyse all product costs to confirm content and conclude any value engineering solutions
  • Working closely with the Design Team to advise/input into initial concepts and designs
  • Help negotiate competitive product costs, samples, and tooling investment
  • Support with PI on safety and legal product requirements
  • Work with external agencies where necessary for samples, prototypes, or other design services
  • Support on prototype/tooling pattern development and sign off
  • Contribute to brainstorming of new concepts for existing brands
  • Contribute to in-house brainstorms and new concept generation
  • Occasional international travel and off-site meetings
