Ken appointed Wilkinson Sword ambassador

Published on: 1st April 2019

Mattel UK and Wilkinson Sword revealed the new ambassador of the Wilkinson Sword Hydro 5 Sense product range.

Shaving Fun Ken blew away the competition to land the role, thanks to his versatile new bearded look for 2019. Ken’s 45” spot was created by Ralph London especially for the Wilkinson Sword campaign, and shows him beating rivals with weird, wacky and wonderful facial hair.

Julie Jackson, senior brand manager, Mattel UK, commented: “Barbie and Ken are pop-culture icons, and Ken as a character gives us an opportunity to speak to consumers in a slightly different, more tongue in cheek way. While recent marketing campaigns have highlighted Barbie’s empowerment message, we also love to connect with society and adult fans and have fun with these much-loved characters. Ken’s new look is a great way for us to partner with Wilkinson Sword, create noise around a new product and keep Ken relevant and fun on 1st April.”

A household name, Ken has appeared on the big screen with Barbie, and has worked with some of the world’s most exciting fashion designers, and in 2017 debuted new looks including a man bun, corn rows and three new body types.

A spokesperson for Wilkinson Sword said: “Ken is one of the most recognised faces in the world – let alone the UK – so when we heard he was sporting a new groomed look, the partnership was inevitable. We have long been admirers of Ken’s super smooth style and constant ability to reinvent himself. Wilkinson Sword understands every man’s skin has different needs – even if it is made of plastic – therefore the Hydro 5 Sense product range, with its shock absorbing technology that auto-adjusts to apply pressure on and off, is the obvious partnership opportunity.”

As part of the rollout, Ken himself commented on the partnership: “Being the face of a Wilkinson Sword campaign is a dream come true. I’ve spent years loving a soft and smooth complexion, but in 2019 I was ready for a new look. With facial hair it’s all about finding your own groove, and with Wilkinson Sword I can change up my look even more easily.”

Shaving Fun Ken is available now.
