Leicester’s Dominoes toy store to reopen

In 2011, Dominoes, which was the biggest independent toy store in the Midlands, was named the best independent toy store in Britain at the Toy Industry Awards.Dominoes300

The award-winning shop, which closed last year after going into administration, will relaunch in the city centre in the New Year.

Steve Sansom, who owned the previous store, revealed “The premises are in the city centre, but it is not the same site as before. It will be less than half the size of the other store, which was too big.”

Mr Sansom said he had been itching to get back into high street retailing since the original Dominoes collapsed.” I think what I’ve got is unique,” he said. “Everybody knows the name and that the service we provide is good. I want to do that again, but on a smaller scale. Hopefully, it will get bigger”

The new store, which will open in February or March, will create up to 10 jobs.

Keith Cooper, vice-chairman of the Leicester branch of the Federation of Small Businesses, said: “That is excellent news. The name has history in Leicester and a lot of people know it. We need more of these shops in the city centre, which people are attracted to from a wide area.”
