Partnerships announced for Bluey, Hey Duggee and Doctor Who.
BBC Studios has announced that it will be extending its partnership with global master toy partner Moose Toys for hit Australian series Bluey. Moose Toys will be supplementing the master toy range with a new collection of lifestyle products. Play tents reflect the outdoor themes running through the show, while the range of furniture, ReadyBed and GoGlow will appeal to the family audience and have strong parent appeal.
The extended partnership covers the world, excluding Asia, and will see the first range of lifestyle toys launch in Australia ahead of Christmas 2020, before hitting shelves in other territories.
BBC Studios has also announced a new partnership with Trends UK which will see the latter create electronic learning toys for the hit series Hey Duggee. The new range will include a Hey Duggee themed learning tablet and flip-up phone, featuring Duggee and his squirrel friends: Tag, Betty, Roly, Happy and Norrie. The toys will be available in-store and online from spring 2020 and will have an educational element, developing communication skills and helping children to recognise colours, numbers, shapes and letters.
The studio’s first licensing partnership with popular global brand Build-A-Bear will result in a new collection of plush, outfits and accessories based on the Doctor Who franchise. This is the first time that Doctor Who plush is going to be offered at Build-A-Bear Workshop, with products launching online in both the UK and USA in 2020.
It’s also been announced that BBC Studios will retain the licensing rights for the upcoming major series His Dark Materials and The Watch. His Dark Materials is an 8 x 60 series written by Jack Thorne and based on Philip Pullman’s trilogy of fantasy novels. The novels have proved a global success, having sold nearly 17.5m copies globally in more than 40 languages.The BBC America original series The Watch is based on Sir Terry Pratchett’s popular Discworld novels, which have sold more than 100m books worldwide. Representation of the series includes all licensing rights across merchandise, gaming, publishing and live events.
