The holiday is nearly over, so it’s back to the fray on Monday.
While I’ve been working hard on my tan and eating at restaurants with giant stuffed bears in the corner (really), there has been plenty going on back in the UK.
It’s been a good week for Clive Wooster, who will be taking the helm at Famosa UK as from September 1st. A great choice and I’m sure he’ll continue the good work done by Paul Fogarty and the current team on re-establishing Famosa as a serious player in the UK. It’s also been a week to remember for Click Distribution, which has been appointed as the exclusive distributor of trading cards, trading card games and sticker collections by The Entertainer, and also Carte Blanche, who opened their first store in Southampton last weekend.
As reported on our website throughout the week, a flurry of new ranges has hit the shelves, no doubt coinciding with the launch of the Argos catalogue last weekend. One of my first tasks on arriving home will be to pick up a copy to see how the toy pages are looking; if anyone is a week ahead of me and would care to share their thoughts on how it’s looking this year, feel free to drop me a line.
There was a time when the launch of the Argos catalogue was a pivotal moment in the toy calendar: in these days of infinite online pricing flexibility, I suspect its arrival is marginally less of a momentous occasion than it once was. Mind you, I understand that Amazon is about to insist on a minimum £10 spend to guarantee free delivery going forward, so it will be interesting to see what effect that has on their seemingly inexorable rise. It also suggests something of a shift in attitude for Amazon towards actually making a profit on individual transactions….
It hasn’t been such a great week for the fifty senior and middle management who have been made redundant by Tesco this week, in order, it is said, to “inject new digital skills into the business.”
Rumour has it that the new Dr Who will be announced this weekend – nice of them to wait until I’m back in the country. There is also a big announcement coming on Monday about a property I’ve always been a fan of, Matt Hatter Chronicles.
But enough teasing, I’m off to enjoy the last remnants of my holiday and celebrate Anita’s birthday, but we’ll both be back and raring to go on Monday.
