Meccano announces new licensed ranges

Meccano has announced new licensed ranges for Sonic the Hedgehog, Gears of War and Rabbids.

Meccano’s Sonic the Hedgehog collection includes Sonic and Speedstar and Knuckles and Landbreaker, plus a range of added value play-sets; Sonic and Ramp Green Hill Play-set and Sonic and Casino Night Environment Play-set.

The Gears of War range includes a selection of highly detailed models of an Armidillo APC, Centaur Tank and King Raven, plus two battle sets – Locust VS Delta Squad Battle set and Lambert VS Delta Squad Battle set.

Sue Barratt, UK country manager for Meccano Toys commented: “These are exciting times for Meccano. We are taking our considerable brand heritage and fusing it with some of the hottest licensed properties around. Sonic enjoys evergreen popularity. It’s a licence that parents and children both instantly recognise. Sonic the Hedgehog for SEGA Drive was many parents first taste of video gaming. But it’s not nostalgia we are selling. We’ve taken a step in a completely new direction with the epic gaming Gears of War – perfect for boys young and old. Then there’s Rabbids – a crazy rabbit that’s a big hit in the playground.”

Sissel Henno, Sega’s head of brand licensing added: “We’re very excited to be teaming up with Meccano for this licence. They have great experience in the area of construction toys, and there is lots of scope for a range of fun construction toys based on Sonic and his universe.”
