Merlin Entertainments has signed an agreement with China Media Capital to build a Chinese Legoland in Shanghai.
The deal has been formally announced as part of the Chinese president Xi Jinping’s visit to the UK.
Merlin already has five attractions in China, including Madame Tussauds and Chang Fend Ocean World, with another three due to open in the next 18 months.
The decision is part of a deal between the Merlin and China Media Capital to build visitor attractions throughout China.
The partnership will also be considering building on existing Merlin brands such as The Dungeons, in addition to new concepts such as Dreamworks Tours – Kung Fu Panda Adventures.
