The store was a hive of activity with customers taking photos with characters, making loom bracelets and checking out the fresh new look for the store. Special one-day deals, 10% off everything in store and free goodie bags also enticed customers in.
Darth Vader, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Freya the Chocolate Rabbit and Toby Toymaster posed outside the store to greet customers as they came in. Giant Playmobil characters and a huge My Little Pony also proved popular for photo opportunities.
Loom classes were a big hit, with over 100 bracelets made throughout the day. The craze has hit Burton, with loom products making up a big chunk of the day’s sales. The Midco Toys exclusive Loom Twister boxes launched on the day and exceeded expectations.
A selection of products were available on the day for £5 as a one-off flash sale, plus 10% off everything in store. People also snapped up Midco Toys’ Loyalty Cards, rewarding repeat custom. Just over 200 goodie bags were handed out during the day, which included Sylvanian Families, colouring activities, Tamagos, VTech keyrings, DVDs and more.
The store has recently received new Sylvanian Families and Playmobil window displays, new fixtures, TVs playing toy ads as well as new signage and banners. Of the new additions to the store, however, the giant K’Nex Ferris Wheel proved the biggest hit. The most common question was “how long did it take to build?” – but none of the store staff admitted it had arrived assembled.
The day was a resounding success and marks the beginning of a promotional campaign to maintain awareness of the Midco Toys store. The next stage is a partnership with local newspaper the Burton Mail to give away free toys, which launches 30th June.
