On the 17th April, Midco Toys held a Retro Toys day at its store in the Westfield Center, Derby, which was attended by over 300 people.
Midco Toys has recently been working with the Westfield Centre on various events including a Sylvanian Family event in partnership with Epoch Making Toys and has also planned a Nerf day.
Graham Hancock of Midco Toys said: “We had a range of perennial favourites on display throughout the day including Kerplunk, Slinky, Rubik’s Cubes, Space Hoppers and our exclusive line of classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle action figures. It was great for raising awareness of Flair’s classic Turtle figures and get the carded samples out on show. So many parents spotted them and came over because they had them when they were younger.”
The event kicked off in the morning with Westfield’s Panel of Fun, a group of children that works with the centre on events like this, who played with the toys, made their choice of top retro toy and then spoke to the local press in attendance. After that the rest of day was open to all comers to play with the toys.
Among the children in attendance, nine-year-old Sophie Musson loved the Space Hoppers, Dario Ferguson-Muti, age nine, picked Slinky as his top retro toy, and seven-year-old Charlotte Moran was hooked on Etch-A-Sketch. Graham added: “The best thing about the day was watching parents recognising toys they used to play with and coming over to have a look. They were showing their children how to play with them; it was a nice twist to see that happening.”
