Nat commented: “I decided to do the Edinburgh Marathon for myself because apparently it’s all downhill. Over the last year I have slowly been building myself up from running 5km, then doing 10 miles, and then the Leeds Half Marathon in 2013. This year I’ve done the Liverpool Half Marathon, and I’ve fitted my training around a busier work schedule. The charity I’m supporting is the Toy Trust, but I can’t attend their 2014 event so I’ve got my own challenge. The work the Toy Trust does supports children, and I know a significant number of the team who go above and beyond to do a lot of good for those less fortunate than themselves.
“Those of you with a keen eye will see that in 2005 I ran the London Marathon in 4hrs 46mins, and some of you know that my best ever was 3hrs 39mins when in 1997. I ran the Leeds marathon with some friends (two laps of the half-marathon circuit – first lap in 1hr 34mins), so I’m trying to wind back the clock and run a respectable sub-4hr time…or I have some strange obsession with putting myself through a lot of pain every nine years.
