The release also celebrates women in engineering.
Series two of the programme will air in the UK on Channel 5’s Milkshake! from 27th June, before airing on TV screens worldwide.
Downtown Abbey’s Joanne Froggatt has spoken out about the character she voices, Wendy, and the importance of women in engineering. She said: “I’m really proud to be Wendy’s voice and to be a strong female presence in the show. I love the fact that in this new series of Bob the Builder, Wendy is now Bob’s business partner rather than just an employee.”
Although Bob the Builder is traditionally a show geared towards construction, building and machines, its creators acted on audience feedback from the previous series telling them to give Wendy a better and more defined role. The show’s producers at Hit Entertainment/Mattel Creations responded by elevating Wendy to a new prominent role on the team as Bob’s business partner, where she now features as an equal to Bob and has a clear profession as an electrical engineer.
Kate Schlomann, VP of marketing for Fisher Price, added: “Bob the Builder is a show all about construction and team work with fun and dynamic characters. It’s traditionally a boys’ show but when we relaunched the series, we felt it was important to give Wendy a clear, defined and prominent role. The modern incarnation of Wendy is an equal to Bob. All this cultivates an impression that competent engineers aren’t defined by their gender.”
