New Smyths Toys Superstore to open in Derby

Published on: 3rd April 2014

The store is due to open at Kingsway Retail Park at 9am this Saturday, creating 30 jobs.

Character appearances on the day will include Pikachu, Skylanders’ Gill Grunt, Fireman Sam, Barbie and a Star Wars stormtrooper. The Transformers Truck will also be outside the store and there will be free face-painting, candy floss and goodies to give away.

Thomas Barber, store manager, said: “We’re thrilled to be opening a new Smyths Toys Superstore in Derby. We aim to offer a fun-filled shopping experience for our customers.”

The store will initially create about 30 full-time and part-time jobs, although Smyths expects to create more later this year. In recent years, the Irish firm has grown rapidly and today has almost 70 stores across the UK and Ireland. This number is expected to grow further this year as Smyths plans to open another five to six stores.
