Asmodee ranks as the UK’s top seller in games this year

Published on: 11th October 2019

The company is the top-ranked manufacturer in the overall Games category as well as second for value added.

2019 has been a challenging year for the toy industry but the Games category is more than pulling its weight, with new data showing Asmodee to be driving one of the industry’s only growth categories.

Data from NPD, covering the year up to the end of August, show the industry as a whole tracking at 9% down against 2018, while by contrast the Games sector has risen in year-to-date value by 7%. And Asmodee is leading the way, shown to be the UK’s most effective seller in the Family Games category over the last three months, with higher-velocity sales than any other company’s games in the same spaces.

Asmodee is shown to be the top-performing member of the country’s top 10 toy suppliers, up 9% in year-on-year value share as the eighth highest-grossing supplier – one of only two of that top 10 to be showing year-on-year growth.

This success is driven by Dobble and the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) as well as the Family Games category. Pokémon is recorded as the number-one games property and growing, with Dobble on the rise at number six.

Both brands have enjoyed welcome additions in 2019. The Pokémon TCG has released multiple new Sun & Moon sets along with cards tying into the live action movie Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, with further boosts expected from the upcoming release of new mainline video games on the Nintendo Switch. Meanwhile, Dobble has seen brand awareness grow with the successful summer release of Harry Potter Dobble.
