Mothercare in talks for Kiddies Kingdom store takeover

Published on: 3rd December 2019

Bosses at the independent nursery retailer have put forward plans which could see the it take over Mothercare’s best performing stores.

As reported by the Watford Observer, family-run company Kiddies Kingdom has made a nine-point proposal to the administrators at Mothercare. The online company says it wants to ‘fill the void’ Mothercare is leaving behind. It has now contacted the retailer’s administrators, showing a ‘keen interest’ in purchasing and ultimately taking over a range of Mothercare’s assets.

The proposal includes taking over high-performing stores within the UK, purchasing leftover stock and distribution centres, corresponding infrastructures and equipment and staff retention.

Mohammed Patel, Kiddies Kingdom director, said: “Kiddies Kingdom has made a nine point proposal to the administrators and we’re currently waiting for a response. We are happy to take on some existing staff to minimise redundancy claims and explore the option of taking over the best performing stores across the spine of the UK. Our Dewsbury Flagship showroom has been hugely successful. We know the type of experience the consumer is currently looking for on the high street and there is scope to replicate this throughout the UK. Now more than ever before the market is hungry for a futuristic retailer which can fill the void Mothercare has left behind.”

He added: “If a retailer like this emerges, it will have an open road to be the go-to point for baby shopping. We believe we are that retailer.”
