Scalextric launches Spark Plug

Published on: 10th May 2019

The technology lets racers control their car from a smart phone or tablet, as well as restrict their opponent’s power.

Scalextric has revealed its latest innovation, Spark Plug, a plug-in dongle and app which lets fans control their car via a smart phone or tablet. More than simply a wireless controller, the Spark Plug app offers players the option of choosing either Single Player or Versus mode. In Versus Mode, racers can restrict their opponent’s power or boost their own to enhance the racing experience.

The app also lets users import music from their library, experience engine sound effects and personalise the racing screen. Players can choose to race as characters within the app, or can personalise their profile with images and selfies from their photo library.

The Spark Plug device simply plugs into the Scalextric track and is compatible with 1:32 analogue sets. The dongles can also be combined for additional gameplay features. Available this coming autumn with an RRP of £14.99, Spark Plug will offer another exciting element of fun to the slot racing concept.

Scalextric has also launched a whole new easy to use 1:64 scale track system with vehicles based on the Justice League superheroes. Character vehicles include Batman, Wonder Women, Superman and the Flash. The set will include over five metres of track allowing 12 different layout options and is complete with two vehicles. With an RRP of £59.99, the set will be available for autumn.
