Scalextric, McLaren and Hamleys partner for Regent Street Motor Show

Published on: 6th November 2018

The three British brands teamed up to celebrate all things cars at the show on Saturday 3rd November.

The Regent Street Motor Show is a Royal Automobile Club event which is sponsored this year by the state of Illinois and celebrating the famous Route 66. For one day, Oxford Circus to Piccadilly Circus is pedestrianised and a 125 years of motoring history is on display. The show covers classic cars, motorsport, and cars of today, and sees an average footfall of over 250,000 visitors.

Scalextric, McLaren Automotive and Hamleys  teamed up for the first time to celebrate all things cars at this year’s event, with a particular focus on McLaren’s Super Series 720S. Scalextric and Hamleys created a stand at Hamleys’ flagship store where racers of all ages could play the iconic slot car game for free. Featuring aspects of the latest Scalextric technology ARC AIR, state-of-the-art gameplay presented drivers with the option of recreating adverse weather conditions and race incidents with the added ease of wireless controllers.

The star of the track was the Scalextric model of the McLaren 720S, while the production car on display featured unique Scalextric slot car decals. McLaren Automotive and Scalextric have been working together for more than 10 years bringing the joys of sports and supercars to the miniature market, with the slot cars a staple on the wish list of every aspiring motorist since the 1950s. Together the brands have created mini icons including the legendary F1 GTR, the world’s first hypercar, the McLaren P1TM.

Throughout the day, Hamleys and Scalextric also ran several competitions and promotions both in-store and on the stand, including a fastest lap competition to win a McLaren licensed Scalextric product.
