Nickelodeon sends Leonardo: Space Captain to space

Published on: 12th April 2016

Over 8,404 votes were cast in February to see which Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle would travel into space, with Leo emerging as the winner.

Turtle-480With over 40% of the total vote, Leonardo: Space Captain was the turtle chosen by UK fans to travel into space. A video of the Dimension X action figure ascending into the stratosphere is now available to view on Nickelodeon’s UK YouTube channel as well as on nick.co.uk, nicktoons.co.uk and on Nick Play.

The video shows GP Flair’s action figure leaving from the launch site near Elsworth in Cambridgeshire. The Turtle ascends to a total height of 34,056 metres. Overall, the total journey took two hours and 33 minutes, with Leo retrieved in a field near Shorthampton, Oxfordshire.

“The video of the space voyage is just fantastic, as not only does it showcase the toy line from GP Flair but it’s also a fitting complement to the latest series of the show,” said Marianne James, VP of consumer products UK and Ireland and European retail sales and marketing at Nickelodeon & Viacom Consumer Products.

“It was amazing to see one of our Dimension X Turtles completing his own space jump,” added Anne-Marie Noon, boys’ marketing manager at GP Flair. “Each figure comes equipped with everything needed for an intergalactic adventure, such as a space helmet and gravity boots, and it was great to see that the equipment worked well for Leo.”

The video, which can be watched below, is released ahead of the UK premiere of the special Turtles episode, Trans-Dimensional Turtles, airing on 16th April on Nicktoons.
