Orchard Toys thanks NHS workers with £20,000 for NHS Charities Together

Published on: 13th May 2021

Company hands over proceeds from sales of two books, specially designed to help home schooling parents and raise money for dedicated NHS workers.

Orchard Toys says it is “absolutely delighted” to have donated over £20,000 to NHS Charities Together, from the proceeds of sales of its Home Learning activity books. The two titles, which carried NHS Charities Together branding alongside the familiar Orchard Toys logo, were designed and produced specifically for the project and proved to be a huge hit with consumers, with both titles selling out within a matter of days.

The initiative was launched in January to thank NHS workers for their hard work during the Coronavirus pandemic, while helping parents who were home schooling their children. The two books, one suitable for children age 3+ and one for children age 5+, were designed to support both pre-schoolers and school children learning at home. Each book contained a variety of different activities, from colouring sheets to numeracy and literacy activities. Retailed at a special price of just £3 including postage, £2 from every sale was donated to NHS Charities Together. Within a few hours of the launch, 5,000 copies had been sold on the company website.

Toy World reported on the story in February, when the books were already enjoying phenomenal success. Since then, the total raised has doubled.

Simon Newbery, managing director at Orchard Toys, said: ‘It was really important to us as a business to be able to give something back to the NHS workers for all their dedication and hard work, and the fact we were able to do this and help parents at the same time was a win win. We’re absolutely delighted with the grand total and would like to thank everyone for their support.”

NHS Charities Together is a membership organisation representing, supporting and championing NHS Charities. There are more than 240 NHS charities across the UK and Orchard Toys will be making their donation to a charity that supports NHS Staff as a thank you for all their hard work during the pandemic.
