‘Blue Mountain Mystery’, the 60-minute Thomas & Friends CGI special, peaked at the top of the DVD charts to become the UK’s best-selling pre-school DVD of 2012.

The popularity was mirrored when the special aired on Channel 5’s Milkshake! on New Year’s Day, wih 537,000 viewers tuning in.

Hit Entertainment’s other pre-school properties including Mike the Knight and Fireman Sam made up half of 2012’s top 20 best-selling UK pre-school DVDs.

The ratings for ‘Blue Mountain Mystery’ were more successful than the previous year’s Thomas & Friends feature-length special ‘Day of the Diesels’, which drew 328,000 in 2011.

Alison Homewood, business head, Hit Entertainment EMEA TV and Home Entertainment, said: “These phenomenal figures prove the power of the feature-length Thomas & Friends specials which continue to build year on year. Not only do they deliver fantastic DVD sales but also gain exceptional broadcast ratings, solidifying Hit’s position as one of the world’s greatest storytellers for pre-schoolers.”
