Pete Kellond with his IDIOT award

Tomy’s head of European development, Pete Kellond, has won the International Designer and Inventor of Toys (IDIOT) award at London Toy Fair last week at the annual inventors dinner.

The award is regarded highly in the Toy/Game industry because it is granted by the inventing community.

The accolade is usually given to inventors and designers, not manufacturers; the award is presented for ‘creative flair, support and ability at developing and bringing new products to market.’

Kellond, who has been with Tomy for a decade has been active in setting up the European product development team, which has opened the door for many inventors.

Most recently, he has developed an inventor’s idea into the Play to Learn Pic n Pop toy which now sells over 100,000 pieces a year throughout Europe.

Kellond stated: “I am very honoured to receive this award, it was really rather humbling. I am very excited about the future at Tomy, we are hungry to grow and definitely need to work with the inventor community to help us expand.”
