Rubik’s Cube features as Google’s doodle

Published on: 19th May 2014

As part of its 40th anniversary celebrations, fans of the Rubik’s Cube can find the puzzle taking over the Google homepage today.

Fans and SpeedCubers alike can try their luck solving the virtual Rubik’s Cube by simply clicking on the Rubik’s image on the homepage, which links through to the online version of the puzzle.

This activity follows the launch of the Beyond Rubik’s Cube exhibition which is currently on show at the Liberty Science Center in the US, which launched at the end of last month. Working closely with the LSC, Google was the lead creative partner in the exhibition, along with the inventor of the iconic puzzle, Erno Rubik. While the online Rubik’s game will only feature on the Google homepage for one day, the Beyond Rubik’s Cube exhibition will embark upon a worldwide tour after a seven-month stay at the Liberty Science Museum.

With the Rubik’s range maintaining its position at number one in the Brainteaser Category for 2013 (NPD Group), a calendar of activity is scheduled to take place over the coming year across the globe to continue the anniversary celebrations.
