Companies teamed up to raise funds for local charity at inaugural golf event.
Hosted by TV presenter and actress Denise van Outen, the event, held at The Mere Golf & Spa resort in Cheshire on 8th September, played host to 20 teams including some very competitive golfers who played 18 holes on the award-winning course. A Golf Trick Show courtesy of David Edwards took place on the 1st tee, and gin tasting was provided by Manchester Three Rivers on the 8th hole. Denise and her friend Jade Towns played in a round alongside Cardinal’s CEO Brian Hay and Sambro’s MD Tom Duffy, and Denise then stayed on for the gala dinner, hosting the evening’s entertainment and charity auction.
The event raised over £52,000 for The Seashell Trust, a children’s charity founded by two Manchester businessmen in 1823 as a school for deaf children. Now based in Cheadle Hulme, it is an Outstanding (Ofsted 2016) national resource providing education and residential care for some of society’s most profoundly disabled children. The funds raised by the auction and other activities, including Swing or Put, will be used to fund a classroom at the new Seashell Trust School, and will be named The Cardinal/Sambro classroom.
Rachel McCrystal of The Seashell Trust commented: “Thank you very much to Cardinal and Sambro, along with their colleagues and suppliers for raising such an incredible amount of money. It will fund a classroom in our new school and help to transform the lives of some of the country’s most profoundly disabled children and young people.”
Tom Duffy, MD at Sambro, added: “We have a fantastic relationship with Cardinal and so it was brilliant to team up with them to raise money for such a great charity. As well as making lots of money, it was also a great way to highlight the great work the Seashell Trust do in addition to having a fun (albeit extremely competitive) day and evening with colleagues and customers.”
