Sir Peter Blake has collaborated with DC Thomson brand The Beano to create a special limited edition print celebrating over 75 years of the comic.
The partnership was brought into being at Coriander Studio, which has a long working history with Blake, producing the majority of his print editions. The Beano special edition launched on CCA Galleries’ stand at the London Original Print Fair which took place on Thursday 24th April – Sunday 27th April.
CCA Galleries, which encompasses Coriander Studio print production, was initially approached by DC Thomson’s Consumer Products team after Blake’s work was referenced by Wayne Hemingway in the creation of a new style guide for The Beano’s 75th anniversary in 2013.
Based around the concept of The Bash Street Kids flooding out of school, all the key Beano characters appear in the image including Dennis the Menace, Gnasher, Billy Whizz, Lord Snooty and Minnie the Minx. Blake mixes old and new illustrations showing how The Beano has developed over 75 years.
Tim Collins, head of brands at DC Thomson, said: “After more than a year in the making, we were truly excited to finally be able to unveil this exclusive collaboration. It’s a rare privilege to have the opportunity to work with a British icon like Sir Peter Blake to celebrate the great heritage of our own beloved British icon The Beano. Sir Peter Blake’s limited edition print is certain to be one of the talking points of this year’s prestigious London Original Print Fair and the partnership reaffirms the brands enduring influence on British pop culture.”
