Launching at the end of July, a range of 1D merchandise will be available from keychains, shoe laces and badges to bangles, bracelets and wrist slaps. Each range will be available in an assortment of colours; one for each of the five band members.
As the band has a powerful online relationship with its fans, each product also carries a 1D Connect code to gain exclusive online content via a free 1D Connect App (available through iTunes on iPhone, iPad and iPod). Fans can collect virtual charms, play a One Direction online game, and complete a charm showcase which they can then share by displaying their charm collection via Facebook and Twitter.
Phil Hooper, UK marketing director, said: “The phenomenon of 1D has been astounding and the interest and support in the band just continues to grow. With a film release planned for August and new stadium tour in 2014, we expect their popularity to significantly increase as new fans join the following. Spin Master is delighted to be offering their followers what they want: pocket money-priced mementos of their favourite band members. We know from early POS reads from One Direction product, which is performing significantly above expectations, that there is substantial demand in the market for the One Direction merchandise.”
