The Entertainer & Mattel launch The Summer Games campaign

Published on: 20th July 2021

The Entertainer is launching an engaging campaign spanning stores and online, highlighting Mattel’s games range as the perfect family entertainment.

The new campaign, The Summer Games, taps into the summer of sport consumers are enjoying and encourages the ‘athletes’ in each family or friendship group to battle it out over the likes of Uno, Scrabble and Pictionary. While the campaign supports the full roster of Mattel Games, a promotion is also running – customers can spend £20 or more on selected items to receive a free Uno Minions.

The Entertainer will be engaging with customers across multiple channels, including retail, TheToyShop.com and its social platforms to highlight this summer as the season for gaming fun. Mattel and The Entertainer have also recruited a team of influencers who will be challenging their loved ones to get in the zone and battle it out.

Activity sheets will also be available that allow groups to host the perfect games night on The Entertainer’s Boredom Busting Hub, and exclusive content will gear customers up for a competitive summer.

Eirian Jones, head of Customer Marketing at Mattel, says: “We’re thrilled to have partnered with The Entertainer to bring to life ‘The Summer Games’ activation. Using the world of Mattel Games, we’re celebrating group gameplay via a series of engaging activities across in-store, online and social, whether that’s showing off your winning move or championing your inner competitiveness. We’ve got the must-have games, from Uno and Pictionary Air to Scrabble and many more, to keep everyone entertained anytime, anywhere. We encourage everyone to take part, so download your leaderboard, get ready, get set, and most importantly – get playing.”

Mary Lewis, licensing manager at The Entertainer, added: “This campaign has been really fun to work on. We collaborated with the Mattel team to identify this summer as the perfect time to make athletes of us all. The past 18 months has reminded us of the importance of enjoying time with family and friends and this campaign celebrates this as we embrace the easing of restrictions and look forward to a summer together.”

As attentions begin to turn to Christmas, The Entertainer is also encouraging consumers to shop earlier this year to ensure they can get their hands on the perfect toys for their kids.

Founder and executive chairman of The Entertainer, Gary Grant, said: “There are lots of brands that we’re excited about for Christmas 2021, including Paw Patrol, following the movie this summer, and CoComelon, Super Mario, L.O.L. Surprise!, Barbie and Bluey.  The shipping crisis in China is causing uncertainty as to what will be available and when, so we urge our customers to shop early for Christmas this year to avoid disappointment.”
