The Spielwarenmesse ToyAwards are underway

Published on: 21st August 2019

Registration begins on the 14th September 2019.

Every year the Spielwarenmesse presents ToyAwards to outstanding innovations. Considered an important quality mark by both buyers and retailers, the accolade enjoys high levels of prestige across the industry. Companies exhibiting at the 71st Spielwarenmesse at Nuremberg’s Exhibition Centre, from 29th January – 2nd February 2020, can enter their innovations for the ToyAwards from 14th September.

The awards are presented in five categories. The innovation prize is awarded in four age-specific groups – Baby and Infant (0-3 years), Pre-School (3-6 years), School Kids (6-10 years), Teenager & Adults (from 10 years) and a Startup category which is open to companies that have been trading for five years or less.

The appeal of the ToyAwards has never been greater. Last time round, 433 exhibitors entered no fewer than 838 innovations. The closing date for entries is 11th December 2019.

From the 14th September exhibitors can submit up to three product descriptions in English together with photos and preferably also videos. The jury, comprising market researchers, international sales representatives, scientists and a blogger, will narrow down the entries in the digital preliminary round. The jury members judge the descriptions on the basis of the following criteria: potential success at retail, fun factor, accessibility of the product concept and originality. In the second round, the jury of experts nominates three products in each of the five categories at a meeting in the run-up to the Spielwarenmesse. The criteria used in the preliminary round are extended to include workmanship and quality as well as safety. The nominated products will be unveiled at the main Press Conference for the 71st Spielwarenmesse on 23rd January 2020. The winners will be announced at the ToyAwards during the Opening Ceremony on 28th January 2020. More details on the jury and entering the competition can be found via the website.
